Dauson Launches New Waste-to-Energy Joint Venture
Dauson Environmental Group has formed a new joint venture with DP CleanTech Group and Brooke Energy Group to develop smaller-scale waste-to-energy facilities that offer a more practical and commercially viable way of managing residual waste.
The new company, DP SWIPCo UK Ltd, brings together Dauson’s experience in waste and resource management, DP CleanTech’s engineering and technology expertise, and Brooke Energy Group’s experience in developing and operating energy-from-waste facilities.
The partnership will develop standardised Small Waste Incineration Plants (SWIPs), designed to help smaller and medium-sized waste operators manage non-recyclable waste, recover energy and reduce reliance on landfill.
The venture is already progressing, with contracts in place for its first two plants and plans for further developments across the UK.
Connecting Resource Recovery with Energy Generation
Dauson Environmental Group is progressing plans for a SWIP facility at one of its Cardiff sites, which would use non-recyclable waste from Neal Soils and Atlantic Recycling to generate energy, reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill. There is also potential to introduce similar facilities across the Group’s wider operations in the future.
The project complements Dauson’s investment in advanced waste sorting and material recovery, including AI-enabled technology designed to recover more recyclable materials before the remaining waste is used for energy generation. A longer-term ambition is to produce a consistent, high-quality fuel with fossil-derived materials removed wherever technically achievable.
Together, these developments demonstrate how Dauson is connecting its businesses, investing in new technologies and working with specialist partners to recover greater value from waste, reduce reliance on landfill and support a more circular, lower-carbon economy.
Developing practical solutions for the waste industry
Smaller and medium-sized waste operators face growing pressure from rising costs, tighter environmental requirements and the need to reduce reliance on landfill.
DP SWIPCo aims to address these challenges by developing a standardised model for smaller-scale waste-to-energy facilities, combining proven technology with the partners’ practical experience of waste management, plant development and operations. The aim is to make facilities more reliable, commercially viable and easier to deliver across multiple sites.
The joint venture was presented at RWM 2026 at the NEC Birmingham in September, where DP CleanTech CEO Simon Parker also spoke about the commercial challenges and opportunities associated with smaller-scale waste-to-energy plants.
