From careers fairs and school visits to university partnerships and workplace placements, Dauson Environmental Group is helping inspire the next generation to explore opportunities in the green economy.

As the transition towards a more sustainable economy continues, attracting new talent and developing skills across the environmental sector is increasingly important. From recycling, environmental science and engineering to sustainability, logistics and business management, the industry offers a diverse range of career opportunities.

Throughout 2026, Dauson has worked with schools, universities, local authorities and youth organisations across South Wales to raise awareness of these opportunities, share industry knowledge and encourage more people to consider a career in the environmental sector.

Connecting people with careers

On 24 September, Dauson was delighted to support the Into Work Advice Service and Cardiff Council Careers Fair at Sophia Gardens, helping people explore employment, training and future career opportunities.

This followed a busy year of careers activity, including sponsoring Dragon GradCon events in Swansea in July and Cardiff in September, alongside supporting university careers fairs and circular economy seminars presented by CIWM Cymru.

These initiatives help connect students, graduates and jobseekers with employers while demonstrating the variety of opportunities available across waste management, recycling and the wider green economy.

Bringing education into the workplace

Dauson’s commitment to education extends beyond careers fairs. Throughout the summer, the Group welcomed two student placements from Ysgol Glantaf and Cantonian High School, giving them first-hand experience of the breadth of opportunities within waste management and business.

The placements offered an all-round insight into the industry, covering specialist subjects such as environmental science, waste management and permit regulation, alongside wider business functions including human resources, health and safety and marketing.

By providing practical exposure to different roles and responsibilities, Dauson aims to help students understand how diverse skills contribute to the successful operation of an environmental business and inform their future education and career choices.

Blaengarw Primary

Inspiring environmental responsibility from an early age

Dauson has also visited primary schools to promote responsible recycling and demonstrate how everyone can contribute to a more sustainable future. Visits included Grangetown Primary School in March and Blaengarw Primary School in May 2026.

These sessions introduce younger pupils to recycling, resource conservation and the circular economy, encouraging them to become environmental innovators and take positive habits into their homes and communities.

The Group also supported Cardiff Council’s Youth Service Digital Teams Cardiff Content Creators Summer Camp, providing an interview desk for young people to develop their storytelling, filming, interviewing and digital production skills.

It was fantastic to see the creativity, enthusiasm and confidence on display, demonstrating the value of opportunities that help young people discover their talents and develop transferable skills for the future.

Investing in people and the green economy

Across these activities, Dauson’s ambition is to strengthen the connection between education and employment, helping people recognise the opportunities available within an industry that plays a vital role in resource efficiency, recycling and environmental protection.

The environmental sector needs people with a wide range of skills and interests. By working collaboratively with schools, universities, local authorities and youth organisations, Dauson aims to nurture talent, raise awareness of green careers and support the next generation of professionals.

Working together to inspire the future

Dauson Environmental Group welcomes opportunities to work with schools, educational institutions, community organisations and careers services on initiatives that promote sustainability, skills development and green employment.
